Entry 11: Final Blog Reflection

The first day of class we were introduced to becoming a blogger and author. My first thoughts about this idea about blogging in a English 102 class was great. I was very excited for something different and new. Every English class is different but most are very similar. The idea that students create a blog and 50% of it is self generated topics was a wonderful idea. I enjoyed writing every single entry. My favorite was the self generated blogs. These were my favorite because it was a way I could express my personal opinion and share what interests me. Along with the self generated topics we has great topics that were instructed to us. All of them we were able to express in our own ways. No ones blog was at all similar. The topics may have been, but the views were all slightly different along with the content.  Blogging was completely new to me. I went in with a positive attitude and for now I am leaving with a positive attitude as well. At first I struggled with the simple aspects

Entry #10: Gun Control

When you turn on the news or flip through a newspaper or magazines it seems that you always are hearing or reading about mass shootings occurring in schools or movie theaters. You hear on the TV and see the issues posted on social media. More laws are made to attempt to control the issues from not happening as much. Of course it is impossible to completely eliminate crimes such as these shooting. How safe is it really to enforce more gun control? The way I look at it, it's not safe at all. The more people cannot defend themselves in situations like this the more likely a shooter will commit a mass shooting or crime using a gun. If a person goes into a place where no guns are allow, the chances this person has to committing a crime and killing a lot of people are high. The chances a civilian has to protecting themselves, family, friends are very slim. People who are not committing crimes obey laws and rules that are being enforced by the government. When you go to almost any p

Entry #9: The Trend on Social Media

Recently I have been doing research regarding social media in general. Prior to my research, I didn't think anything of social media. I am a frequent user of Instagram, Face Book, and Snap Chat. I use these daily to upload pictures, statuses, share videos, and communicate with family and friends. There are a few things I did notice post my research. I noticed a fashion trend on social media. Every person I have on via Instagram basically had the same fashion sense. I personally always looked past this and didn't bother to even think anything of it. When you follow celebrities and friends you notice a similarity in the type and style of clothing people wear. I defiantly can say I think people are highly influenced by what they see on social media. Many people try to be unique and make there fashion sense original, but with everyone trying to be unique, to me everyone looks ordinary and the same. Although people claim to be original I see a trend. Particularly I see a trend withi

Entry #8: Talk Shows! My Learnings and Comparisons!

Talk shows have been around as early as 1951. In fact, the first talk show was originally called a chat show. Joe Franklin who was an American radio and television personality was the first person to air a television talk show. The show became a hit which led to a new trend. Today, one very well known talk show is the Oprah Winfrey Show. The Oprah Show became an international show that premiered in 1986 and ended in 2011. The show inspired mostly women and men all over the world. She made dreams come true and experiences happen. Other shows like Dr. Oz and Dr. Phil became hits after they appeared on the Oprah Show. Dr. Mehmet Oz , who was a cardiothoracic surgeon and a professor at the Cardiovascular Institute and Complementary Medicine Program at New York Presbyterian Hospital, began filming his talk show after premiering five times on the Oprah Show. His main focus is to provide people with advice on how to be healthier individuals. For example, he focuses on proper ways to eat, exe

Entry #7: The #HashTag

Somewhere between 2015 to 2016 I was personally introduced to the #HashTag. At first I did not understand the purpose. I thought it was just some kind of new tree on the online world that would go away. When I first noticed it on social media I would just ignore it and look past it. More and more the hash tag symbol (#) followed by a word or phrase was appearing more often. This is when I finally discovered that with a click of a button you are taken to a new page with pictures and other hash tags related to that hash tag. I found it very interesting actually. The fact that a click of a word or phrase opens up a new tab of related posts was very very cool to me.  I noticed the hashtag revolution primarily on Instagram. There was a pattern I saw with people that I followed. Those people tended to receive a handful amount of more liked on their pictures and videos then others. Followed by their caption there was a paragraph of never ending hash tags. Was this why people were getting m
