We have all heard it and seen it, "Adopt Don't Shop". What does this mean and why are people so passionate about this slogan? When you buy from a local breeder you are actually supporting euthanizing at your local pounds. Ever animals that enters a no kill shelter has a time frame of how long they are going to keep the animal before euthanizing it and if they think the animal will be sold. When you purchase a and al from a 3rd party breeder, your decreasing other animals lives in shelters.
2.7 MILLION adoptable cats and dogs are euthanized in the United States.
Something great about adopting a animal is that not only are you saving a life, but this animal most likely comes micro chipped, spayed/ neutered, vaccinated, and possibly food.
Animals at a shelter are happy and healthy pets who are just waiting for their human.
But what is something that really sticks out? The price! The price for a fully vaccinated, spayed/neutured, and microchip pets is cheap! A breeder animal could cost you hundreds of dollars, and has no shots, no micro chip, and is not spayed or neutered. Thats a rip off dont you think? Adopting is a steal!
Also think about the pair that is being breed. Do you really think these animals breed every few months naturally? Although this video may be disturbing, take a look!
Isn't this rape? What are your thoughts? DISGUSTING in my opinion!

I agree that people looking to be pet owners should definitely consider adopting. If more people adopted as opposed to buying brand new dogs and other pets, homelessness of animals would decrease alongside euthanasia percentages. Thank you for including the video. I don't know anything about ways breeders breed, but the video you included felt wrong to me too. If they were professional looking veterinarians do you think the video would still raise eyebrows? I feel they way they went about filming was a bit too informal. Especially while wearing a racerback tee, basketball shorts, boots, with a beer in hand.
ReplyDeleteI really liked this entry because I can really relate to it! My family adopted a dog for christmas two years ago and she was so cheap compared to other dogs we looked at from breeders. She was already chipped, spayed, and vaccinated too! I agree that people should really start adopting dogs or even animals in general! Great post :)
ReplyDeleteI see your point but what happens to the breeders dogs that don't get sold wouldn't this situation be a double edge sword.
